Enter the fantastic and exciting world of the Vikings at the JORVIK Viking Centre. Visit the new exhibitions to discover excavations of a Viking-age city, Jorvik.

Marvel as you walk amongst the remains of 1,000 year old Viking dwellings and view objects and artifacts found during the excavations of the Viking settlements.

The JORVIK Viking Centre is the site of one of modern archaeology’s most famous discoveries. Between 1976 and 1981, the York Archaeological Trust discovered and excavated the remains of the Viking city of Jorvik. These amazing discoveries lead to the centre being created so that the public can experience the life of Vikings.

Information on the city and it’s inhabitants is provided via audio and video displays. Piece together how the Vikings truly lived by investigating all the information gathered at the Coppergate dig, which took 5 whole years to complete.

The Viking city of Jorvik will be your destination as you travel in the Centre’s state of the art time capsules. Take a look inside the houses of the Norse speaking citizens of Jorvik and see how they lived during the time.

JORVIK Viking Centre is host to exciting Viking themed events and activities all year round, so keep an eye on our News section for announcements on up coming events happening at this top York attraction.

Whether it is your first time visiting or you have been before, the JORVIK Viking Centre offers something for everyone.
